What is ATS (Applicant Tracking System)?

An ATS is software for managing hiring - posting jobs, collecting applications, and moving candidates through interview stages - separate from core HR, which manages people you already employ.

Some HR platforms bundle an ATS; others keep hiring and core HR as separate tools. A team that hires constantly benefits from a dedicated ATS, while a team that hires a few times a year often does not need one.

If you mainly need to track the people already on the team, that is a core-HR job, not an ATS job.
