Holiday entitlement
What is Holiday entitlement?
Holiday entitlement is the total amount of paid annual leave an employee is owed in a leave year - the statutory legal minimum plus any additional days the employer offers by contract.
It is the sum of two parts: the legal floor (in the EU, four weeks under the Working Time Directive; in the UK, 5.6 weeks including bank holidays) and whatever the employer adds on top. Part-time staff get a pro-rata share of the same entitlement.
Where teams get it wrong is mid-year joiners and leavers, and whether public or bank holidays sit inside the figure or on top of it - which is a policy choice. HREvio tracks each person's balance with monthly accrual and a starting balance set at onboarding, so a mid-year joiner begins from the right number instead of a flat annual grant.
