Compensation history is the record of an employee's pay over time, and effective dating means each change is stored with the date it takes effect, so past and future salaries stay accurate.

Effective dating shows what someone earned in any past month, and it handles raises scheduled ahead or changes applied back-dated. That is what later pay-history questions need. Sensitive salary fields should be encrypted at rest.
