What is Payslip (pay stub)?

A payslip, also called a pay stub, is the document an employee receives each pay run showing gross pay, itemised deductions, and net pay, along with the period it covers.

Format and required content are set by local law, so a payslip in one EU country can look quite different from one in another, but the core is usually the same: gross pay, tax and social-contribution deductions, any other adjustments, and the net amount paid.

It is a payroll output, not an HR-records one - HR data such as salary, contract, and employment status feeds the calculation, but the payslip itself is generated and issued by whichever system runs payroll.
